Customer Reviews

This review is being revised. The original review is below, for perspective. After a week or so of playing--well really, fiddling with this knife in my office, and using it to open the occasional box from Amazon.com...the knife kind of grows on you. The handle still feels and looks cheap, but with the blade out the knife fits pretty comfortably in my medium-sized hands. And the price has gone back down. If you think of this as a $15 pen knife, it works pretty well. So I am upgrading my rating to three stars.
Being a fan of Bear Grylls, I thought it would be cool to have one of his knives. At the time I ordered this, it was $14.99, I see now the price has risen to $19.00. Either amount is too much. I like knives and own all kinds. But, for the price (even though it is a very low price) I do not think I have ever seen a more cheaply made knife. The blade seems fine and Gerber does have a pretty good reputation, but the handle is really cheap. It is plastic I guess. When I flex the blade the handle gives, and I suspect I could break it pretty easily.
Addendum, after seeing the other review, I must admit that young fans of Grylls might find this knife quite acceptable.

Just took it out on a 4-day hike on the Appalachian Trail. Cut through cheese and salami effortlessly. Then on the 3rd day my friend and I arrived during a rainstorm to a full shelter. We'd both forgotten our tent stakes. The BG knife cut lots of twine guylines and sharpened a dozen sticks for tent stakes easily. It does the job and mine weighed just 26grams (1oz). Perfect.
