Gerber 22-01463 Coyote Brown LMF II Infantry Knife

Product Description

From the Manufacturer
This knife is as adaptable as the personnel who carry it. Use it to cut through the skin of a fuselage. Or sever a seat belt. Or egress through the Plexiglas of a chopper. Plus, the LMF II does a slick job cutting firewood and building shelter. The over-molded handle successfully limits blistering. There is complete separation between the tang and butt cap, so the knife absorbs the shocks from hammering and prevents the shocks of electricity. Smartly situated grooves and lashing holes let the LMF II convert to a spear. The low-profile sheath facilitates movement, limits noise, works for parachuting, and attaches to a belt or Molle vest. The patented, integrated sharpener means edge retention in the field.
Features a 4.84 in. 420HC Stainless blade and a 5.75 in. Coyote brown textured Kraton handle. Comes complete with a molded plastic and nylon sheath. Holes through the blade and handle allow lashing to specific gear. Skull crusher handle end. Soft rubber over-molding on the main sheath to reduce noise. Butt cap is physically separated from the tang by handle substrate for shock absorption amd electrical isolation.

Customer Reviews

I purchased this knife to replace/retire my 30 year old USAF/USN issue pilot survival knife with leather sheath. The Gerber knife blade is of good quality and did everything in my test that my issue survival knife did-no better-no worse. The Gerber sheath is another story. The sheath is made to be attached to a GI vest hanging upside down so you pull (with some authority)down to release the knife. If you wear it on your belt you need to attach at least one of the leg straps to hold the sheath down while you pull the knife out. Without some kind of leg strap you need 2 hands to get the knife out which is not very practical. There are also 2 snap straps holding the knife in the sheath as well. An excellent design if you are paratrooper, but very difficult to use and to snap with the knife on your hip. If you wear the knife on your hip, the point on the butt cap used to break glass will stick you if you lean over on that side. With the Gerber sheath you will never lose the knife, but not very practical for the general public and it is very bulky. I purchased a new nylon and velcro sheath for $10 for my old knife and will continue to use it and not the Gerber

This is a quality knife for the price. The blade is durable and keeps a good edge with moderate use. It is well balanced with a very comfortable grip. Comes with a solid sheath made of hard plastic, secured by web nylon. Knife snaps securely into sheath and is reinforced by two nylon straps. Extra nylon straps with plastic buckles are included for fitting. The only minor drawback I have encountered in the past month of ownership is that with all of the provided fitting options, the sheath is a bit bulky.
I consider this knife a value and would buy it again.
