This machete worked great for 30 minutes clearing light brush and thorns. After that the blade started bending and even split in a couple of places. It's advertised as high carbon steel but high carbon steel usually breaks before it bends. The areas that broke could be bent back and forth several times until they broke apart completely. A knife should be made of a hard material and this item was definitely not as advertised. Also once the blade was warped it didn't fit in the sheat and just shreaded the stiching. Don't understand why something with an 18 inch blade would be made of mild steel. I did purchase 2 other SOG products that were made of the right steel and are still working great. This machete was a piece of crap.
I work in the field surveying and we use the machetes a lot when surveying in the woods. We recently purchased 2 of these machetes along with 2 gerber gators. Less than an hours use later, one of the SOGS had a large chunk taken out while beating through some bushes. About 10 minutes later, the second SOG had the top third of the blade completely shear off and go flying. Luckily no one was around and it didn't hit anyone. DO NOT BUY THIS MACHETE!
