ok a few things, first this is a full tang knife, and it comes with a fire starter. yes it comes blunter than a butter knife, and yes the rope grip is incredibly uncomfortable. BUT, the hilt has holes with makes re-wrapping the handle with some rope or para-cord very easy, once re-wrapped the handle is comfortable, also the steel is decent quality, so with a little sharpening the knife becomes very usable. bottom line 7$ and 10 minuets of your time and you have yourself a decent knife.

Let me make a few assumptions if you are considering buying this knife. 1) You are not planning on buying a $200 Gerber. 2) You do not consider yourself a survivalist but you do DVR Man Vs Wild. 3) You're buying as a gift for someone who DVRs Man Vs Wild. 4) In all honesty the biggest thing you have ever needed a "survival" knife for while camping is to Rambo open a bag of chips.

This was my first full tang knife and I honestly bought it thinking I could do more with it than I really can. Once I stopped trying to baton trees down with it and used it for what it really is, its a good knife. It easily beats any similarly priced folder or multi-tool (and hollow handle piece of junk) for back woods functionality, and its a very educational knife. Its pretty much just a chunk of stainless steel, so as long as you dont beat it to death, nothing can go wrong with it.
You must sharpen it. You must do something with the handle. (I went on youtube and learned how to... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Midget Survival Knife, May 16, 2010

First of all this knife is China stainless. The pseudo-paracord might as well be the yarn your grandmother knits with. You'll have to do a handle re-wrap. The blade comes dull and the sheath is cheap crap. It's a solid tang knife with a good feel once re-wrapped. The fire starter is really cool and works well.

**I've had this knife for a year now and it has done very well as a fishing knife on multiple excursions. It sharpens up with the "Smiths" pocket sharpener I have like a razor blade. Excellent for trout cleaning. The killer to this buy is the sheath. It's just pure junk. But for the price, I've learned to live with it.
