For everyday use, I would not recommend this knife. The blade has a needle-sharp point, but the blade itself is not sharp. The blade is 440C stainless, which is ok, but it is finished with BLACK PAINT, which begins to wear off as soon as you first open it. The thumb studs are too small-- it takes practice to be able to open it with one flick, and then only when you hold it just right. Good luck if you're under stress. The price is a little to high as well; should be < $20.00.
On the plus side, once the blade is open, the ergonomics are good--It fits the hand well. Boker also includes the tiny TORX wrench and another special tool to replace the so-called 'glass-breaker tip' with a tip that looks like a ball point pen, and that's definitely good. With the pen tip in place, this looks exactly like a pen in your pocket; also a plus.
I carry and use a knife every day as a cutting tool. This is not suited to that purpose. As a defensive weapon, it could make small puncture wounds of 1 5/8" or less. It's best feature is it's super low profile.
This knife was designed for self defense. I doubt it would do very well for whittling sticks. It's appearance is that of a purpose built tool. It's appearance would hopefully make it's use un-necessary if you should ever have to show it to an attacker. If needed it would be more than up to the task. I carry mine clipped inside my right front pocket. I sometimes have to go into areas that are not the most secure. I hope it always remains in in my pocket and never sees the light of day (or night...).
