Product Description

From the Manufacturer
The category of "key chain knives" has been around for a long time. In most cases, these are little pen knives, with thin blades and slip joint pocket knife frames. Gerry McGinnis had a radically innovative idea, which is why this knife is in our catalog. He calls it the Shrimp . The revolutionary idea is this: make a small knife with premium quality materials and big knife build. The Shrimp is not a toy, but a real sport and work knife. The only difference is that it has a 1-3/4-Inch blade and a 2-1/2-Inch handle. Take the blade, for example. It is made of premium 8Cr13MoV stainless steel in a high satin finish. Although short, it is fully featured, with a modified drop point shape with recurve. It is high hollow ground and has a slight swedge on the top edge. It is opened by a large CNC-milled nail notch. There are aggressive friction grooves on the spine for the thumb. But most impressively, the blade is a full 1/8-Inch (3-1/5 mm) thick, a width common on much larger folders. The Shrimp has a frame-lock build, eliminating the need for separate liners. The right side frame is 3Cr13 stainless steel on all models. The left frame is 6061anodized aluminum on the colored models, and stainless steel on the bead-blast model 1181. The left frame is skeletonized to save weight. To aid grip, there are two finger choils and the frame has a rounded contour.

Customer Reviews

I'm a fan of McGinnis' designs. I have several production models from CRKT. I was really looking forward to this one as the "perfect" keychain knife.
It is a tough, well-built (over-built) frame lock! So unusual for a keychain! Blade spine is very thick and heavy, so blade geometry is an aggressive hollow grind to a razor sharp drop-point with a nice belly and re-cureve. Action is smooth. Nail nick is deep and wide so the blade is easy to deploy, but you won't be "flipping" it open, that's for sure.
Pivot is torque screw adjustable. It's a well built, teeny-tiny frame lock with glow in dark spacer. It even has a propper pocket clip.
Here's the problem. Despite the lightening holes drilled in the frame, the Shrimp weighs in at a Chubby 1.9 ounces. (Delica 4 without clip is 2.2) This puppy is really just too heavy for a keychain, in my opinion. This is accentuated by the ONE weak part on the knife: it's attachment point. A thin wire hanger that is spring-clipped into the tail.
I still like the knife because it's so unique. I just haven't found a good place for it in my rotation. It's just a nifty novelty for me right now.
Complaints aside, if I did not already own one of these, I WOULD still buy it. There's nothing else out there quite like it, and when they're gone, you'll never see it again.
Hope that helps.

I ordered and received an orange CRKT "shrimp" knife. It was well packaged and looked brand new. However, as soon as I opened the blade, I noticed a wavy spot, a bend, in the blade itself. The blade showed not scratches or fingerprints, so it does not appear somebody used it and bent it. Instead, it looks more like a manufacturing flaw.
Otherwise, it's very nice. The blade is very tight, locks securely, and nothing rattles on it. It is only orange or one side, which the pictures do not show. There is a fairly large pocket clip on the non-orange side, which makes the whole thing a bit wider than it should be. But it looks like that clip is removable, so it's not really a big deal.
Due to the wavy blade, I am returning this knife for a refund. I'll try something different to fill my need for a very small pocket knife.
